Artist Submissions due by Friday, August 21, 2015
SAN FRANCISCO (July 28, 2015) – Manos Nouveau (3970 17th Street, San Francisco), a Castro gem tucked away behind The Café nightclub, announced today that they are now accepting submissions from Bay Area artists to display their artwork within the restaurant. The original work of twelve selected artists will be chosen by partner and creative director Caitlin James. Beginning in September, art will be rotated every two months and two new artists’ work will be showcased at Manos Nouveau. To celebrate the newly exhibited works, Manos Nouveau will be hosting a kick-off reception on Tuesday, September 15, 2015. Visual artists may apply by submitting three digital images representing their original work here. Submissions must be received by Friday, August 21, 2015 by 11:59 p.m. Selected artists will be notified on Friday, August 28, 2015.
Since opening earlier this year, James has adorned the modern wall space with work from local artists, keeping the atmosphere of Manos Nouveau inspirational and refreshing.
Says James: “I am very passionate about art and it brings me joy to announce the call to artists. Art and food have a lot of parallels. Both are open to interpretation and we want to provide a space that allows guests to experience both.”
Adds owner-partner Manuel Montalban: “The sultry and modern two-story space with expansive gallery-like walls is the ideal atmosphere to showcase local artwork alongside the artistic and multi-dimensional interpretation of Latin and European cuisine.”
Manuel Montalban and his partners seek to contribute to the community of like-minded businesses and expand on their philosophy that a restaurant is a built on a foundation of a great food and passionate people. This combination is reflected not only in the savory food offered at Manos Nouveau, but also in the restaurant’s handcrafted environment. From the beautifully created ceramic dinnerware, to the handmade piano-finish bar, the rotating art collection and even handmade pillows, every element of Manos Nouveau invites personal connection.
About Manos Nouveau
Manos, Spanish for “hands, “refers to the talented and creative people who helped make the restaurant possible. Nouveau is French for “new and inventive.” It is an upscale contemporary French culinary style, which embraces invention – in lieu of tradition – while encouraging inventive pairings and artistic presentation. Embedding subtle elements of French style into the cuisine, Manos Nouveau guides diners beyond fusion into an artful medley of several cultures, while still remaining Latin at heart.
